This is a shop-once plan that feeds 2 adults generously, or a family of 4, for about $95 to $130 total using store brands. It uses overlapping ingredients so nothing is wasted, and every dinner makes 4 to 6 servings, so lunch the next day is already covered.
Average cost per dinner serving: $0.80 to $1.75.

How to Calculate Your Savings
Formula: Cost per serving = Total cost of ingredients used ÷ Number of servings
Example: Lentil stew = $4.70 ÷ 6 = $0.78 per serving. If you spend $110 total and get 28 meal portions from leftovers, $110 ÷ 28 = $3.93 per meal.
Tips to Stick to the List
1. Use the overlap rule: Every item appears in at least 2 meals. Rice in 4, onions in 6, tomatoes in 4.
2. Shop once: One weekly trip. Each extra trip adds ∼$15 in impulse buys.
3. Check unit price: Look at price per ounce on shelf tag. Store brands win for canned goods, frozen veg, dairy, grains.
4. Prevent waste: Freeze bread and cooked rice immediately if not using in 2 days. Store potatoes and onions separately, cool and dark. Eat oldest leftovers first.
5. Swap when prices spike: If chicken is high, use all beans + eggs. If fresh peppers are expensive, you are already using carrots, cabbage, and frozen mix.
Keep this template and just swap one protein and one vegetable based on sales next week to keep variety without rewriting everything.
